We Talmbout Social Media?

I think social media is a powerful tool that can be used to reach the masses. Athletes, musicians, celebrities, and more use social media to connect with their fans (and haters). That being said, as a teacher, I don't think I want to resort to social media (sorry to my legion of fans, but you can follow me on Twitter @sum1peedmypants). I had a fun idea to post homework on Snapchat so students would have to scramble to get it down, but I don't think that's a good idea. A good idea would be to follow me on Twitter @sum1peedmypants.

I think that when teachers use social media, students lose interest in it. They can't be caught using the same technology as old, boring teachers! Also, the news that social media spreads is generally trivial. As a result, social media in the classroom can easily derail the lesson as students begin reading about irrelevant topics (irrelevant to my lesson, at least). With the way social media is being used, I don't think students would be receptive to using it academically (follow me on Twitter @sum1peedmypants). I think attempts to use it would be forced, and that ends up being more of a distraction than an enhancement of the lesson.
